Getlit Webapp
Getlit Webapp
A learning and collaborative web app to learn and collaborate poetry.
Problem
The Teacher Portal allows teachers to sign up for the Get Lit platform, manage their accounts, get trained on the Get Lit curriculum, and administer their classes. In addition to the Training Materials, teachers must also complete live training. In the Teacher Training area, there will be a calendar available that shows upcoming live training. Live Training may be conducted via Zoom or in person. Live Training may be recorded and archived, and made available for viewing on the platform at a later date. Training that a teacher still needs to complete will be highlighted in the calendar.
Solution
From the very start, I wanted to reduce the number of steps or repetitions to complete a task. Given that this was a learning dashboard, I didn't want users to spend any time learning how to use this dashboard or web app. Instead, spend that time on improving their skills or development, in this case improving their knowledge of poetry and learning that passion. Keeping this in mind, I first worked on the user onboarding their steps to interact with the web app and their interaction with other users/teachers on the platform.
Getlit is a poetry-sharing and collaboration platform for students and teachers alike. It helps people create, share, learn, and improve their poetry skills while focusing entirely on collaborating with different students and teachers.
Get Lit is an education technology platform for teaching poetry in schools. Its target audience is teachers and students in middle school and high school. Get Lit is an organization that uses poetry to increase literacy, empower you, and inspire communities through a comprehensive in-school curriculum and extracurricular events. The Get Lit educational technology platform will bring the curriculum online and allow it to scale nationwide. The platform consists of three components: Teacher portal Online curriculum Poetry collaboration community Additionally, there are a series of administrative dashboards, allowing school administrators and Get Lit superusers to manage the platform.
This was a very important project for me. Although I worked on different web apps earlier but working on Getlit meant to solve actual problems from a unique set of users and understand their needs and design as per those needs. I learned to collaborate with people, understood how they think, and it also gave me a chance to try different stylings, fonts, and come up with a unique set of designs which suited the Getlit brand better.
I was responsible from the very beginning of the product design. First, I worked on the MVP, which comprised designing the basic landing page and teacher’s and student’s portal. After moving to the next phase and approval from the client. I started working on the whole web-app which was almost 25-30 pages long and included some of the most important features like, assignment submission, library to search content, teacher's dashboard, student's dashboard, classes screen, and many others. I was responsible for designing this whole set of screens including everything from UI to UX to colors and choosing the fonts and overall styling.
I started by listing out all the screens and creating a user flow. This user flow helped me to design and understand the user journey, and it also helped me to see how the web app is going to work in real life. Since there were two different user groups, "Teachers" and "Students" I had to think about how they moved through the web app and reduce any unnecessary screens or points. For this, I also talked to the client I was working with and I started working from there. After designing the user journey and understanding the movement, I began working on the rough wireframes and then turning those rough wireframes into low-fidelity mockups. In between, I was in contact with the client, and I was sharing my ideas and process. After reviewing the low fidelity mockups with the client and getting some initial feedback and reviews, I moved to the next high fidelity version.
